800m, 1500m
Keep an eye at the athlete's meter at the top of the screen. Running too hard at the start makes the heart meter drop fast. Conserve the heart meter by running less than full speed. The more hearts means the more second wind boost you get. Only tilt the R stick all the way up when overtaking. For the rest of the race, tilt the R stick slightly up. Use the L1 boost when at the final stretch of the race. Also, stick to the inside of the track for a faster time.

100m, 110m Hurdles
The starting takeoff is the most important part of the race. Anticipate the gun. A quick start means less time. You should also be able to set a rhythm to jump the hurdles.
